- Pop Quiz Expands To The U.S

Pop Quiz is expanding to America. The new episodes of the latest series of Pop Quiz are to be seen as part of the dedicated "Best of British" channel on the Amazon Prime Video service in the U.S. The new episodes will feature members of some of the biggest pop bands from down through the years, including Spandau Ballet, 10cc, Imagination, Haircut 100, Bucks Fizz, Linx, and many more.

The Pop Quiz "Ringmaster" is once again the ever-youthful broadcaster Mike Read, who kicks off a new invigorated series of the classic pop show. Mike is joined this time by an A-list of heritage music stars including Toyah, Paul Young, Carol Decker (T'Pau), Steve Hogarth (Marillion), Steve Norman (Spandau ballet), Leee John (Imagination), Jay Aston (Bucks Fizz), Lol Creme (10cc), Trevor Horn (The Buggles), and many more.

 

Originally broadcast on BBC 1 through the 80s, and subsequently revived in the 1990’s, 2000’s and in 2017, Pop Quiz was regularly broadcast on Saturday evening, with audiences of up to 10 million each week. It became a weekend tradition for generations of pop fans.

 

The Pop Quiz format is made up of two teams of three celebrities, with one acting as team captain, competing with each other on questions related to pop. Pop Quiz features both team and individual rounds with team members being asked to identify a variety of different song clips, lyrics, or associated pictures or videos. Plus, there's a compilation of songs of a particular theme to decipher, and a quick-fire round of questions in which panellists go head-to-head.

 

Mike Read, commented: “We are so pleased to be able to bring together a star-studded panel of celebrities for this new series of Pop Quiz, which has been so requested by many of the show’s fans. The programme had an audience of 10 million a week for years, and it's great to find a new U.S audience who also want to enjoy the show".

 

Describing the deal Dennis Young CEO of Glocal Media, which operates the Best of British channel, says: "these new episodes of Pop Quiz are just perfect for our loyal audience, who love classic-style British TV of all kinds". The agreement was brokered by James Ross, CEO at Lightning International, who adds "Mike Read and the Pop Quiz team have breathed new life into a solid entertaining format, and great to see big names like Toyah, Paul Young, and Trevor Horn joining the Pop Quiz panel"

About Pop Quiz

 

Pop Quiz is an interactive game show that attracted ten million viewers every Saturday, and is presented by the original host, Mike Read. The teams are made up of three pop stars with one acting as team captain. The show has both team and individual rounds. The individual rounds see each player given a song, then asked a question about it. They are then asked to identify three different artists who sang the same song, or asked to name a song with a specific lyric. Team rounds include naming number one hits by a group, or a compilation of songs of a particular theme, where teams guess the artists.
